Good marketing must begin with strategy. I have learned this both the easy way and the hard way, in professional environments where the deliverables had to be met consistently. The good news is that strategy makes the work easier.

Having a strategy helps marketers set core objectives and deliverables against a firm timeline. This is important to remain on track with projects and ensure that expectations from yourself and your team are set early. Remember that you cannot underdeliver when you don’t overpromise.

I will share my experience working with a team to create a detailed marketing communications campaign and event marketing strategy. The project was to promote the coastal town of Lyme Regis in southwest England, United Kingdom so we had our work cut out for us. Thankfully, ours was a cross-functional team of highly skilled MarCom professionals, researchers and creative designers.

Our team settled on an event marketing approach.
